5 Runners Complete Legendary Race, Setting New Record

Frozen Head State Park, Tennessee

In a historic achievement, 38 runners embarked on the notoriously challenging 2024 Barkley Marathons, with only five emerging victorious, including the first woman ever to complete the grueling race. Jasmin Paris, a 32-year-old British runner, broke barriers as she crossed the finish line after 60 hours of relentless effort.

The Barkley Marathons, known as one of the toughest races in the world, spans five 20-mile loops with over 54,000 feet of ascent, nearly twice the elevation gain of scaling Mount Everest. Each loop begins and ends at the iconic yellow gate at Frozen Head State Park in Tennessee.

Among the 38 starters, 18 were first-time Barkley runners, including the eventual winner, Ihor Verys. 16 were returning veterans, seeking to conquer the unforgiving course.

The accomplishment of Paris and the other finishers marks a significant milestone in the history of the Barkley Marathons, demonstrating the determination and resilience of these extraordinary athletes.
