The UCLA Bruins football team ended a six-year bowl game drought in dramatic fashion on Saturday, rallying from a 10-point deficit to defeat Boise State 35-28 in the New Mexico Bowl. Quarterback Ethan Garbers led the Bruins' comeback, throwing for 340 yards and three touchdowns, while linebacker Darius Muasau recorded a game-high 12 tackles and forced a fumble that clinched the victory.
UCLA trailed 28-18 in the fourth quarter before Garbers connected with receiver Kazmeir Allen for a 35-yard touchdown pass. The Bruins' defense then forced Boise State to punt, and Garbers led them on a 75-yard drive that culminated in a 1-yard touchdown run by running back Zach Charbonnet.
With less than two minutes remaining, Boise State drove to the UCLA 35-yard line. However, Muasau stripped the ball from Broncos running back George Holani, and defensive back Stephan Blaylock recovered the fumble to seal the victory for the Bruins.
"This is a huge win for our program," said UCLA head coach Chip Kelly. "Our guys showed a lot of heart and determination, and they never gave up. Ethan Garbers played a great game, and Darius Muasau was all over the field."
