Texas Football 2023 Hudson Card Quinn Ewers Expected To Push Each Other In Final Spring Practice

Texas Football 2023: Hudson Card, Quinn Ewers Expected to Push Each Other in Final Spring Practice

Hudson Card and Quinn Ewers are expected to push each other in the final spring practice.

Texas Longhorns football is set to wrap up spring practice with the annual Orange-White scrimmage on Saturday, April 22. One of the biggest storylines of the spring has been the quarterback battle between Hudson Card and Quinn Ewers.

Card started the first five games of the 2022 season before suffering an ankle injury. Ewers started the final eight games of the season and showed flashes of his potential.

Both quarterbacks have looked good this spring, and it's unclear who will be the starter when the season begins.

In an interview with the media on Tuesday, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said that both quarterbacks have made progress this spring.

"I think both guys have had a really good spring," Sarkisian said. "They've both shown improvement in their decision-making, their accuracy, and their leadership. I'm really pleased with the progress they've made."

Sarkisian said that the quarterback battle will likely continue into the fall.

Sarkisian said that he will not name a starting quarterback until after the team's fall camp.

"I want to see how they both perform in fall camp," Sarkisian said. "I want to see how they handle the pressure of the competition. I want to see how they lead the team. I'll make a decision on the starting quarterback after we've had a chance to evaluate them in fall camp."

Here are some additional details about the quarterback battle:

  • Card is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound redshirt sophomore.
  • Ewers is a 6-foot-2, 220-pound redshirt freshman.
  • Card has completed 61.6% of his passes for 1,001 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions in his career.
  • Ewers has completed 57.3% of his passes for 880 yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions in his career.
